500 years after his death, Cortona celebrates Luca Signorelli with a major exhibition
Until October 22.,The master of the "greats" of the Renaissance including Raphael and Michelangelo will be the protagonist of a major retrospective in his hometown, which will be accompanied by thematic itineraries and many events. Already many thousand visitors.

“Signorelli 500. Maestro Luca da Cortona, painter of light and poetry” is the title of the exhibition promoted by the Municipality of Cortona and the Etruscan Academy of Cortona to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of the painter born in Cortona in 1441.

Extraordinary innovator of the Renaissance season, Luca Signorelli - Luca d'Egidio di Ventura his real name or Luca da Cortona - studied in Arezzo in the workshop of Piero della Francesca and also participated in the construction of the Sistine Chapel in Rome as Perugino's assistant.

He was in many ways an elusive figure for critics and the public, yet fundamental in tracing the path that would be followed by Raphael and Michelangelo: the two giants who, ironically, later ended up obscuring his fame.

The exhibition at the MAEC–Museum of the Etruscan Academy of the City of Cortona, open from 23 June to 22 October 2023, traces the artist's career, making evident the strength of his colourism, the scope and originality of his inventions so admired by Giorgio Vasarii.A great success for the largest cultural project carried out in Cortona in recent years, which has already reached many thousands visitors.
