Monticchiello incanta

Put an evening in Val d’Orcia, the charm of the ancient Borgo di Monticchiello, the theatrical soul of its people and the show is served. With 85 years of cultural tradition behind it, the Teatro Povero di Monticchiello even in these hot August nights has seduced dozens of lovers of beauty who have converged between the fascinating walls of the Val d’Orcia village with a theatrical gem “Il velo della sposa”. These beautiful people, proud of their traditions, have shown off all their acting agility and this year in particular have presented the public with very young child actors who have alternated in the various performances. In conversation with Federicaand Chiara of the ProLoco we are explained how much the locals are attached to this tradition that acts as a social glue promoting attachment to this land, adherence to a common identity to the detriment of the exodus towards the cities that the whole Val d’Orcia has mourned a bit. The training activity lasts all year round and the commitment of the children has been constant and it is exciting to see how the love for this land, expressed in the theatrical tradition, is transmitted as if by osmosis from the elderly to the little ones. Walking alone in the Monticchiello by night, you can clearly see that the tourist development has been largely moderated in favor of a few but refined activities exquisitely native: from the local craft shop, to the local restaurant to the wine shop with Orcia wines.
Of course, here too the rental and sales market has enticed international Tour Operators, but the people of Monticchiello are attached with strength and with pride I would recommend the Teatro Povero that never disappoints. In particular with the Velo della Sposa, it brushes from the tragedy of the Second World War, to Fascism, passing through the economic boom of the 60s to the limelight today that sees the Val d'Orcia as an international tourist destination. In perfect Val d'Orcia dialect, the development of this land was told, which from being poor and evicted has become a jewel, unfortunately for the masses, risking to gradually lose its authentic enamel in exchange for a semi-permanently glittered nail. To the fake symbolic ceremonies of international Wedding Planners, Monticchiello responds with an authentic theatrical show, made up of real people who relive the language and ways of the never-dead past. Not like in a vintage shop but as a modus vivendi that is more current than ever.
To those who want to see, hear the common people and taste the local spirit, it is recommended to book a seat at the Teatro Povero in Monchhiello: under a roof of stars you come into contact with the authentic Val d'Orcia, which has little to do with those new rows of cypress trees, not at all native, that make it look like a collection of cemeteries.
